At a St Patrick’s Day Breakfast attended by more than 350 persons at Michaelangelos, Eileen McNab was honoured as the Irish Person of the year 2025. The annual event is staged by the Wearing of the Green Committee. The citation for McNab reads, “Eileen McNab is a force to be reckoned with, and her name is synonymous with the Irish Canadian Club of Hamilton. It’s safe to say that Eileen holds the record for the longest-serving committee member ever.
Eileen was born on the East Coast of Canada but raised in Belfast. In 1978 she returned to Canada with her husband, Jim, and settled in Hamilton. Since then, she has been an active and vibrant part of the Irish Canadian Club. Throughout her career at Hamilton Health Sciences, Eileen also dedicated what could only be described as another full-time career to volunteering to support and celebrate Irish heritage and community.
In 2009, Eileen was awarded the Roll of Honour, at the Irish Canadian Club, recognizing her unwavering support and dedication to the Irish Club and the Irish community. Eileen embodies the spirit of fostering Irish roots and creating a welcoming space for all to celebrate and appreciate our shared Irish Canadian heritage.”
Previous Honourees include Bishop Ryan, Sister Joan O’Sullivan, Bro. Richard McPhee, Bob Morrow, Father Kyran Kennedy, Sheila and Dennis Corr, Dermot Nolan, Mike Shea and Pat Dillon.

Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario, issued the following statement on March 14, 2025:
“Over the last several weeks, we have seen the number of new measles cases rise to 173 bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Ontario to 350 since 2024, including 31 hospitalizations. This is the most measles cases Ontario has seen in over a decade. It is critical we work together to mitigate further spread of this vaccine-preventable disease.
Over 96 per cent of cases in Ontario are among individuals who are unimmunized, or have unknown immunization status, and were exposed in their community or while travelling. A majority of Ontario’s cases are concentrated in southwestern Ontario among unvaccinated people.
Vaccination is the most effective way to limit the spread of measles and protect yourself and your loved ones. The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine has been in use for more than 50 years and is proven to be one of the safest and most effective vaccines available.
All Ontarians should ensure themselves, and their children, are up to date on their vaccinations. Children who are fully immunized with two doses of the measles vaccine are nearly 100 per cent protected, with one dose estimated to be up to 95 per cent protective.
As part of routine vaccination schedules, children should receive two doses of the measles vaccine, their first at 12 months and a second when they are between four to six years old. If you are not sure about your immunization status, please contact your health care provider or your local public health unit.
Measles spreads easily among those who aren’t vaccinated and can lead to serious health issues including pneumonia, respiratory failure, swelling of the brain, and in rare cases, death. If you think you or a family member has been exposed to measles, please contact your health care provider immediately. Before any visit, be sure to call ahead to let them know that you are coming and that you suspect that you may have measles so appropriate precautions can be taken.
We will continue to work alongside our public health partners to respond to measles and to ensure the health and safety of communities across the province.”

The Rotary Club of Kingsville Southshore successfully applied for a community grant. These district grants support projects that align with the mission to help Rotarians contribute to world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving people’s health, supporting education, and alleviating poverty.
Dave Lebrun, Chair of the local “Filling the Fridge” grant committee, submitted the application, citing a growing need in our community:
“The Kingsville Community Food Bank has seen a steady increase in the number of clients served in the past couple years, and this grant would greatly help us secure perishable items for our clients. The Kingsville Food Bank currently serves approximately 600 people a month.
“We rely solely on donations and volunteers to serve our community. The Kingsville Southshore Rotary Club has been actively involved in the community food bank now for many years. We have regularly participated in food drives and have taken on the role of providing manpower to serve patrons.”
Kingsville Southshore Rotary Club members present a $5,000 cheque to Heather Pillon, of the Kingsville Food Bank. The grant has “filled the fridge” with perishable items such as cheese, milk, eggs and margarine.
