Hamilton Bylaw enforcement and Housing are making some progress in removing encampments from city parks. A week ago, all Gage Park encampments were removed, along with the encampment at the Delta. An encampment was seen back at the Delta this week but as of Saturday was gone.
North end residents had been expressing concern that the encampments within a 1 km distance of the Barton-Tiffany site had not seen much change but late this week the city started moving on Bayfront Park and Pier 4 Park. Staff had earlier indicated these would receive priority as part of the protocol that accompanied the establishment of the Barton-Tiffany temporary shelter site.

In answer to a query from the Bay Observer, Dan Smith, (Acting) Director, Licensing and By-Law Services, City of Hamilton wrote, “enforcement continues to be a top priority at these two locations. Three encampments at Bayfront Park have recently left and Municipal Law Enforcement Officers issued Trespass Notices to those remaining encamped. Careful coordination continues between enforcement teams, outreach services, and other City departments. We want to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation as enforcement efforts ramp up.” There also was some clean up done at encampments adjacent to the Pier 4 parking lot.
A number of smaller encampments in the lower city have also been cleared.
